One of the methods used in controlling neutrons release in Pressurized Water Reactors, is the use of Boric Acid and Borates in the cooling circuits, because of the natural predisposition of isotope B10 to absorb one neutron to pass to B11.
Due to the importance and sensibility of involved technology, very high purity products are necessary to minimize corrosive phenomena and damages to plant parts in continuous contact with the waters of the cooling circuits. Furthermore, an high purity product avoids the formation of long decaying nuclides in wasted waters, with great savings in disposal and more respect for the environment.
SCL high purity Boric Acid NS and DECA NS are essential to avoid the formation of corrosion phenomena and long decaying nuclides, due to the presence of impurities in the water of the cooling circuits.
Also higher level of B10 allows the use of less concentrated boric solutions. SCL's Boric Acid NS has the highest B10 content, assuring the same effectiveness with less concentrated solutions.
